Nations as ever evolving entities for culture
I think the world is going through a cultural makeover where rules and rights to ancestral land are constantly being challenged. The ease of global movement through fast ocean faring ships and airplanes make mass migration happen in a couple of hours or days as opposed to months or even years centuries ago.
War torn countries often perpetuated by Western supply of weapons and dictatorship backing by these very same Western powers who claim to be "stewards of democracy" compounds the problem. Western countries and their obsession with unfettered capitalism are the root of those seeking asylum.
We need to change the way we see what makes a nation and accept that nations are ever evolving entities for culture.
For example, why was it okay for the Spanish to erase the Filipino's Oriental Malay identity and replace it with a western one? Why was it okay for the British and French to virtually wipeout North American Indigenous culture?
Why is it not okay for Asians or Africans to transform Europe's cultural makeup when Europeans have been doing it for centuries?
