As a diasporic Filipino, recognizing that being "Filipino" is just a segment of a larger Austronesian base gives me a sense of comfort. Austronesians are explorers and colonizers. Our identity is linked to where we settle and adapt to. We are not locked down to one island or continent. We explore and we transform. That's who we are.
